Best Qualities to Look for in a Lip Injector

Lip injections are a popular cosmetic procedure that can enhance the appearance of your lips by adding volume and shaping them to your desired look. However, before you decide to get lip injections, it is important to realize that lip injections are a 3 dimensional work of art and there is not a one size fits all approach to injecting them. Things can go HORRIBLY wrong if you don’t choose a qualified, skilled injector who can deliver the best results. Here are some qualities to look for in a lip injector:

  1. Quality of Work - NOT how many followers they have on Instagram: It seems so obvious, but it is often overlooked. When you’re searching for a lip injector, you should look for someone who posts great before and after photos of lips that you like. Some injectors spend their time twerking and dancing on Tik Tok for engagement and followers but post very few photos of quality work. Often times they will have big social media followings which over shadow their sub par work. Other injectors have smaller social media followings but post great work daily. If you want to love your results, go with the injector who shows the best work, regardless of how big their social media following is.

  2. Attention to Detail - It’s about the shape! Not the plump!: A good injector will pay close attention to the shape and symmetry of your lips. They will work with you to achieve a natural-looking result. Everyone has natural asymmetries and therefore, there is no such thing as a one size fits all approach. A great injector can balance even the most subtle asymmetries with precision. They will be able to achieve symmetry and retain a natural proportion of top lip to bottom lip. Some injectors will aimlessly plump your lips with too much filler just to take as much money from you as possible. Injecting too much filler in one sitting results in filler migration and risk of collapsing blood vessels. Often times this also results in round, doughnut shaped lips, instead perfectly proportioned, enhanced lips with natural shape and pout. If larger lips are desired, the your injector should enhance them slowly over time to allow the tissue to expand, with no more than 1 syringe of lip filler being injected at a given appointment. The truth is after this point, there is so much swelling that one can’t properly assess which areas need more filler. We need to allow swelling to come down and allow the tissue to expand in order to properly assess what areas need more filler. Lips that are sculpted slowly over time will always look much better than lips that are overfilled in one sitting and result in filler migration.

  3. Artistic Talent - It’s about the art, not the degree: The best injectors have an artistic eye. After all, lip injections are not just a medical procedure, they are a three dimensional work of art. A great injector can envision ahead of time how they would like to sculpt and contour their patient’s lips in order to make them the best version of themselves. It is obviously important to have a great understanding of facial anatomy in order to avoid complications, but at the end of the day, the best lip injectors are the ones with the most artistic talent and not necessarily the highest degrees. Fore example, an artistic Aesthetic Nurse injector may outperform a Plastic Surgeon with less artistic talent. Additionally, a Nurse injector who solely focuses on lip injections may achieve better results than a Plastic Surgeon who performs a wide variety other procedures, rather than focus on one area of expertise.

  4. Good Communication Skills: A good injector should be able to explain the procedure, the type of filler they will use, and the potential risks and side effects. They will listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and give you clear instructions on how to care for your lips after the procedure. They should also be able to provide you with realistic expectations of the results you can expect. Lastly, a good injector will NEVER pressure you into a procedure you are unsure about.

  5. Cleanliness and Sterilization: Lip injections are a medical procedure, so it is important to ensure that the injector's work space is clean and sterilized. They should also be cleansing and sterilizing their injections sites and using new needles and syringes for each patient in order to follow strict infection control guidelines.

  6. Credentials: Lip injectors should be licensed and insured. They should be able to provide you with their credentials and certifications.
